Shannon & Rawn’s Colony Club Detroit wedding was absolutely, hands down, without a doubt one of the most memorable weddings of my summer season so far. It was my favorite fo so many reasons, it’s hard to know where to start. We started the day with the girls at The Westin Book Cadillac before Shannon & Rawn’s first look at the hotel. They were some of the sweetest bridesmaids, and they brought a calm & collected vibe to the entire day. Shannon looked incredible in her dress and she was so excited to reveal it to her husband to be. They both had seen this dress in a window in Paris (yes, you read that right) just one day before Rawn popped the question. He had no idea this would be the dress she would be wearing as he made her his wife. Their first look was full of surprise and secret handshakes and I knew that moment that today was going to be incredible.
And just as we arrived at our first location, the rain started to fall as it has done at so many of my weddings this year. So we took cover under a few umbrellas and the Detroit Institute of Arts & some of my favorites spots in that area for portraits. Everyone was so laid back, had piles of patience and I just loved this time getting to know each person in their bridal party. When portraits were wrapped up, we headed over to Colony Club for their ceremony & reception. Shannon’s father was beaming as he walked his little girl down the aisle to marry her man, as they sealed their marriage with touching words, live music and heartfelt prayers of God’s grace and bounty. It was so beautiful.
Dinner & dancing followed and when I say dancing … I mean dancing! In all my years of shooting weddings at Colony Club Detroit, I had never seen a wedding that found the dance floor packed all night long. Both Shannon & Rawn’s reception was full of traditions, singing and gifts from their sorority & fraternity brother’s & sisters. When they say “there ain’t no party like a Detroit party” this is where it comes from. Literally. Everyone there packed the room and the dance floor long into the night. and myself and my second shooters honestly, didn’t want to go home.
