From the moment I stepped out of the car for Leonora & Jason’s engagement shoot last fall, I knew they were going to me pure magic. They are calm, collected and deeply connected and it tells volumes through the lens. It’s everything I need to make pretty pictures. Fast forward to their Colony Club Detroit wedding this August where we made magic all over again. This time, we were surrounded by incredible details, family & friends.
Leonora was a natural beauty as she got ready in the Presidential suite at The Westin Book Cadillac that morning. I loved spending the afternoon before their ceremony there with her maids and Megan, one of my other gorgeous brides from last year. We were also able to work alongside some of the best, Andy of Owen Video for their cinematography coverage and Jen, Kendal & Anna of Jen House Design for florals. I will never tire of working with incredible designers, because look at those flowers! Leonora is already a visionary choosing some of the newest and hottest colors of this wedding season, raspberry, dusty mauve, cinnamon rose and deep greens. But partner her with the team from JHD, and it’s a match made in heaven. I always try to tell myself … oh calm down, the flowers are just an accessory, the flowers are icing on the cake … but there I am spending upwards of 15 mins just with the bride’s bouquet.
After her flowers were delivered and mimosa glasses emptied, Leonora slipped into her gown from The Dress Shop in Brighton. It was if it was made just for her. Jerad Rushlow & Marijana Camaj were on hand for last touched of hair and makeup before we met Jason downstairs for their first look. Shooting in & around the Westin Book cadillac is one of my favorite spots downtown. Something about the open streets and tall buildings lend to a true city feel. We were racing against time that morning as the forecast was calling for rain during portraits. We headed over to the Detroit Institute of Art and made it there just on time as the sky opened up on us and it started to pour. We spent some time using the covered areas of the DIA and it pushed my second shooter, Brandon & I to our edge in the best way possible. Jason & Leonora were once again calm, collected and didn’t even flinch at the rain falling from the sky.
After portraits, it was over to Colony Club Detroit to tie the knot in a beautiful ceremony in the grand ballroom. Geometric candelabras lit the way in a sweet ceremony and was followed by a reception rich in culture, live music and dancing into the wee hours.
Leonora & Jason … from our engagement shoot to your incredible wedding day in Detroit – I can’t thank you enough for trusting me with one of the biggest days of your life. I had truly loved every minute working with you both and getting to know your family & friends. Your wedding day was one I’ll not soon forget and go down as one of the most beautiful weddings. You remind me that love doesn’t have to be complicated. It need to be simple & true, just like the two of you.
