Weddings are coming to the blog fast & furious as I get caught up on all the incredible couples that tied the knot this past fall like Jamie & Mike’s Waldenwoods wedding. My favorite part is seeing them unfold one after the other and every single one different from the last. It’s one of the best parts about my job, honestly. No two weddings are alike. Each one unique unto it’s own. Every couple with a different story to tell, a different vision and I get to be there to tell the whole thing. It’s incredible, and drives me to get to know all the intricacies of their wedding day.
Jamie & Mike were married in late fall when the leaves were peaking. And what better backdrop for their wedding day than tucked deep within the woods at Waldenwoods. Michigan was showing off all her golden colors, and the sun even peeked out for a bit to warm us up during their ceremony. This was followed by dinner, dancing and hanging out with family & friends in front of the fireplace. Is there anything that says fall more than a lit fireplace and hot cocoa?
Yes. Yes, there is. It’s a sunset that was out of this world. We saw it start to happen during toasts and we knew we had to get creative to get them both out back for 3-4 minutes of shooting. And just when we thought it couldn’t get better, the afterglow happened. And carried on into deeper and deeper shades of purple haze, then orange than the deepest red. It was amazing. Here’s a peek at Jamie & Mike’s Waldenwoods wedding.
Did you do a first look?
Yes – we got a quiet, private moment at our first look and also got to experience the emotional “walking down the aisle” moment.
What did it feel like the first time you saw each other on your wedding day?
It was calming to see each other after all the planning and events leading into the big day – felt a little like coming home. That soon led to excitement – this day marks the official beginning of our future together! We waited a long time to find each other.
What was your most memorable moment that day?
We were in awe that we could bring together all of our family and friends in one beautiful place – a rare thing. And we certainly won’t forget that gorgeous sunset!
What was the biggest challenge in planning your wedding?
There were a countless number of decisions to be made, and we probably should have spaced them out more instead of waiting until the end.
What was your best source for finding vendors that you wanted to work with?
We did a lot of research using The Knot web site– loved seeing the pictures and reading the reviews. We are blessed with talented friends and family in the wedding industry. We also relied on referrals from friends.
Any advice to newly engaged couples?
Enjoy this exciting time in your life and make time for activities not related to wedding planning! Think about what’s most important to you and keep that forefront when making wedding planning decisions – you will be presented with so many great options along the way.
What is your next big adventure as a married couple?
Our honeymoon in Hawaii – we planned the trip after our wedding so there weren’t quite so many planning tasks leading up to the big day, and we have another fun event to look forward to!
