I love shooting senior boys. And over the years, I’ve had the chance to meet some of the coolest guys.
It’s an entirely different pace than shooting a girl, because boys need to feel relaxed in front of the camera. When I’m getting ready to style a senior boy for his shoot, I first send him a quick questionnaire and have him describe his style in a few words. I also ask him what his “go to” clothes are and what he feels most comfortable in. This is my starting point for getting him comfortable and styled to suit his personality and the location or locations that we’ve chosen for his shoot. One of my favorite looks for a senior boy is “relaxed and rugged”. It’s great because guys can layer up so easily for spring and fall shoots where it’s a little chillier. Throw a simple gray t-shirt under any flannel topped with a great leather jacket and he’s pretty much ready for the pages of GQ.
