As a photographer, it’s really tough not to run around and go about your life with a camera attached to your face. After all, it’s how we see much of life … through a lens. Catching every single moment, wanting to forever freeze it in time and document every step of the way. I used to do that when I first started this journey. I shot everyone and everything that came within 50 mm of me and I’m pretty certain I drove my family insane.
But this morning was one of those moments I simply could not resist. We had just finished up breakfast, and Jillian plops down in front of the tree and starts having a little conversation with Elf. You see, last night I wrapped some of her presents from mommy and daddy and left them under the tree for him to guard … with his life. She starts talking to him about what a good girl she’s been, and that she hasn’t peeked. She told him that she’s going to be the best big sister and share all the toys she no longer plays with (haha). She asked him if he’s been telling Santa that she’s been making her bed every day and that she tried sloppy joe’s the other night even though she didn’t want to. It was an adorable few minutes, and about 30 seconds into it I made a mad dash for my camera. Here are a few shots that I managed to get of her before she noticed me.
Oh the anticipation of Christmas when you’re 5 years old …
I thought it would be a good time to give a little update – and probably my last for this year – on what Elf has been up to these past few days. We’ll start with the most important job he’s had, guarding those gifts! Making sure they don’t get shaken, stirred, smelled or licked.
Jillian got a new bedroom for her birthday, and Elf thought it would be funny to tape it off so that she couldn’t peek.
And always, always getting into some mischief!
Well, this little guy goes back to the North Pole tonight. Back to hang with all his Elf friends, takes a break for a little while from his job. I hope he’s ready for our house next year. He’s going to have his work cut out for him and has to keep two littles in line!
Wishing everyone a magical Christmas Eve. May your heart be full and your life be abundant. Love and Light to you.
