Strange title for a family peek, I know. But stay with me here … I feel like a broken record and I’ve said it countless times here this year but I don’t shoot kids. Or families. Well, it’s not that I don’t shoot them, because I clearly do but I don’t consider myself a child or family photographer. Personally, I don’t think I’m really that great at it and have spent my time focusing on things that I’m pretty confident that I’m better at. But once again, this time of year especially my phone starts ringing with clients from past years and we get to chatting about our kids, how much they’ve grown and I find myself missing their little faces and my mind shifts to I hope she’s calling to book another shoot this year, because I’d love to see them again…
And so here I was, on a chilly December morning running around (ok more like chasing) Luke & Jack and catching up with their parents, Rob & Ashley. I knew we’d be quick and only shot for about 30 mins or so, it was freezing although the sun was high in the sky. I try to keep things simple with kids, and families and really think it’s more about them interacting with eachother that makes great images. This is my 3rd year shooting Jack who’s 4 so he warmed up to me pretty quickly. But Luke on the other hand was just crawling around last year and it took a few versions of the Mickey Mouse song and Jake and the Neverland Pirates song to get him to sit still for me for even a minute. Trust me I felt like the skies opened and Moses parted the sea when he sat still for a few frames and even giggled with me. And then there they were … snowflakes. The first true snowflakes I’ve seen this year so it was kind of a magical moment for me. Just fluttering through the air enough to catch your eye. It was pretty beautiful. And there I was doing what I love with clients that have been good to me over the years and gave me a swift reminder that I do actually love shooting families and kids. So thank you for that Ashley, Rob, Luke & Jack. Here’s a peek at our shoot together.
