Sometimes, it just feels good to get away. And there’s something liberating about last minute travel plans. No time to run around like crazy making sure you have every necessity involved with traveling with two young children. No time to get laundry done, get some groceries, clean the fridge out, etc. We had everything that we needed. Just get up and go. Which fits in perfectly for my vision for 2014 that I blogged about here.
As a family we are on the verge of big and exciting changes in our lives and I’ll share them when the time is right. But one thing that we know is that we want to explore, get out more, see more of our life instead of working everysingleminute and not enjoying all of the fruits of our labor. I’ve always said it and I firmly believe it that living your life will only inspire your work. There is nothing that inspires me more than watching these two little ones explore the world around them and soak in every little bit of adventure. And I’m I’m one of those people that loves a big city. I love it’s hustle & bustle, I love the meshing of different cultures, I love the shopping (duh, you knew that was coming) and it just calls to me. I don’t pack our schedules tight with running around, but rather let our time in new places unfold and see where it takes us.
Last weekend, we did just that. We boarded the dog first, then worried about the humans. We knew we needed to get out of these four walls. We knew we had a little stretch of time off from school for Jeff & Jillian. But that was all we knew. We spent 48 hrs deciding where to go. We could’ve jumped on a flight down to Jacksonville to stay at our favorite place, One Ocean. Or we could’ve rented a house on the beach like we did last year. Or we could’ve surprised the kids with a trip to Disney. But in the end, we decided to keep it easy & stress free and head over to Chicago for a long weekend of adventure. I was sad that I missed my best friend Sara who lives just outside the city, but she was in Europe for work. But she gave us an awesome recommendation and we booked ourselves at one of the most kid-friendly hotels I’ve ever stayed at, the Hotel Palomar in the heart of the city, just two blocks from Michigan Ave. Located in between a few of the major museums we wanted to see, it was a fantastic stay complete with goldfish in the room for the kids to tend to and pint sized animal print robes for Jillian & Nash. We picked up a few City Passes, made a few dinner reservations and were all set for our weekend away. And it was just what we needed.
