Let me be the first to tell you, this has been a whirlwind summer – and not the globetrotting shooting on top of mountains or anything like that type of whirlwind summer – but we bounced all over the place to shoot & play in the sand every 3 weeks this summer. And it was completely worth the exhaustion & happiness that we took home with us. This last trip we dubbed our “last hurrah” before school starts next week. And my work took me once again to the other side of the Mitten, this time to a tiny place called Shelby, Michigan where we rented an adorable A-Frame cottage on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan for a long weekend with my family. I will take my family with me whenever possible, and feel just so lucky that my job lets me do this! I do have a pretty cool boss though, I may be a little biased.
Anywho, we scored this rental through Air BnB. If you haven’t yet discovered it, it’s the only way I travel these days and you can find some real gems! The moment we arrived, we walked right through the house, out of the front door and nearly fell into the dunes along the lakeshore. It was incredible! The kids woke up in the morning for long walks along the beach, we had dinner outside, and fell asleep to the sound of the waves wrapped up in Joey’s arms. Damn, that sounds cheesy but I’m so happy it’s true. Who knew a short 3 hour drive from home could feel like a millions miles away.
