Last week, I shot Jake’s senior shoot on Grosse Ile and was so thrilled when his mom called me earlier in the season to get him scheduled and start working on a few ideas. I shot his sister, Jessica two years ago and mom told me then that she couldn’t wait for him to shoot with me. Senior boys are such a different experience for me and they usually come to the table with specific “looks” that they have in mind and a certain way that they want their shoot to turn out. Which is great, because it gives us both a chance to collaborate and come up with some fun and cool ideas. One of the first words out of my mouth when I met Jake was trust me. Trust that I see things a little bit differently and it will be totally worth it. Especially when I started setting up some lights in a boys locker room! Well, he did and I love what we shot that night. Jake has played football and la crosse most of his high school career and knew he wanted to incorporate his live for both into his shoot. So naturally, we started at the high school then we ventured off to a few of Jake’s favorite spots around the island. With the forecast looking gloomy and rainy that day, we had decided to use the hangar at the airport as our backup location! And airport hangar? Yes, please! And certainly not the first time I’ve shot in and around one. But we didn’t get a drop of rain for Jake’s shoot and when the sun went down we decided to head over to the airport anyways for a little night shooting. Guided with my off-camera flash set up and mom’s trusty iPhone, we shot in the dark and came up with some pretty cool shots. Here’s a peek at Jake’s shoot.
