I know, it’s strange to see a picture of a classic car gracing the cover image instead of a beautiful bride, gorgeous senior or Nash & Jillian. But on Wednesday, my dad turned 60. Weird that it seems like just yesterday we had his surprise 50th and his retirement party from Ford. But here we are 10 years later, and although many things have changes in all of our lives, we still find the most enjoyment in spending time together as a family. As much as my dad loves his family and grandkids, his true pride and joy is his 1970 Chevelle that he bought the year I was born. I have a handful of baby pictures of him propping me up on the hood, barely able to walk yet on the shores of Lake Michigan over in Muskegon. I grew up around classic cars, and I’m even the proud owner of my own 1967 Mustang. It’s what we do in our family, cruise around in cars. And more proof is that both of my kids have car names – Jillian Cruz and Nash Jameson.
But my dad’s Chevelle is gorgeous and it’s candy apple red, loud and fast – all the things a muscle car should be! He’s spent countless time over the years not only restoring this beauty but keeping it running perfectly so that we can all enjoy it too. My mom even hung a few pictures of the two of them when he first bought it, they were only 20 years old. So I couldn’t think of a better gift for him than to snap a few images of him with his car and grandkids before dinner on Wednesday night.
Happy Birthday dad! After all these years, you’re still the coolest dad around.
