It’s that time of year, and here we go!
1. I’m all into home made gifts this year for my kids. They’re simpler, fun to make and I know for a fact that they won’t sit inside a closet gathering dust and adding to the already huge pile of unused toys. This year, I made both Nash and Jillian their own fort kits. I saw the idea on Saltwater – Kids, and they were so easy to pull together. Jillian’s has a princess theme, and Nash’s is superhero. Inside each bag, they’ll find a flashlight, some rope, clamps, an activity, and 2 twin sheets. Loved these, and even had fun making them. 2. Sports equipment is always on our Christmas lists! Some new bindings from Burton and gloves for snowboarding will be waiting under the tree this year for Jillian. Now all we need is snow! 3. Pajamas are some of my favorite gifts to give to my own kids, my friends, and family. Something about them gives just that warm, all over fuzzy feeling and you just can’t go wrong. Some of my favorites this year are from J. Crew and Old Navy. 4. I love personalized gifts, especially since both of my kids’ names are pretty tough to find in the stores. And since we love celebrating the little things here at home like birthdays, good deeds and passing spelling tests at school, I found these adorable “great Day” plates from one of my favorite designers, Emily Ley. They make great gifts, too so I picked up a few for my friends and their kids as well. 5. Let’s face it. Our kids love to watch tv. And my kids are no exception. But I’d rather control the tv that they do watch whether it be on car rides, on a lazy Sunday morning or after school. A few Pixar and Disney movies usually make it into my kids’ stockings each year and this year, Santa may or may not be bringing Jillian a copy of one of her favorite movies, Brave. 6. Books, books, and more books. We just can’t get enough books this year. My little preschooler started reading just before her 4th birthday, and now just days shy of 6 years old, she’s reading full chapter books and just looooves the classics. We’ve already read the Boxcar Children, the Wizard of Oz, & Tom Sawyer. Jillian has specifically requested an “old, old copy” of the original Alice in Wonderland, so mommy’s on the hunt. Feel free to let me know if you have an old dusty one laying around that you might be willing to part with. 7. Boys and toys just seem to go together like peanut butter & jelly. And Nash is just so fascinated with every truck, bus and car that goes by. So I picked up a few of these awesome toys from Green Toys that are made from recycled materials at Modern Natural Baby in Ferndale and I’m sure he’s going to love crashing them into anything and everything.
