As many of you know earlier this year I signed a lease on a beautiful, natural light studio & space in Downtown Ann Arbor. When I was brought in by my friend and talented photographer Amanda, I never imagined I would use the space as often as I have. I knew I could shoot in there if I “had” to, but was primarily thinking of using it as an office to work, collaborate, host workshops & mentor. But it has exceeded that purpose in so many ways. I absolute love the simplicity of every square inch of it. We have two sides, one for sitting and meeting with clients, the other as a more open and common area to shoot and host.
This season, seniors and portraits helped me settle into this beautiful space and learn where and when to chase the best light. I shot a ton of film. It was the perfect storm of challenge & opening up many creative channels for me as a photographer. What a joy having so many incredible clients come through those doors. Like Emily, who’s mom got in touch with me this fall about having her U of M Graduation portraits done as she wraps up her undergrad and pushes onto the next chapter of her education. I loved every minute with her in the studio, and her simple beauty was all I needed to create portraits that were truly her.
